Cognitive Testing for Learning, ADHD, and Autism
Mentality in Motion provides cognitive, ASD, and ADHD assessments as well as support planning for children, adolescents and adults. With a masters in sport and exercise psychology, Jacinta aims to provide assessments and support to individuals that are highly active and sporty.
What is Cognitive Testing?
Cognitive testing (also known as neuropsychological assessment) is an in depth assessment of a person’s cognitive and behavioural functioning. This may include tests of memory, problem solving, attention, concentration, reasoning, and other cognitive skills.
Cognitive testing can help with the diagnosis of:
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Autism (ASD)
Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Intellectual Disability (ID)*
Giftedness*
Psychologists can use cognitive testing to provide an individualised strengths and weaknesses profile to provide recommendations for school, work, and home, as well as guide treatment and interventions.
*Mentality in Motion does not provide assessments for ID or giftedness at this time
NDIS REPORTING
If you require any reports for NDIS (evidence of disability, access to support, plan reassessments etc.). Please let your psychologist know when booking your Intake Interview.
What an Assessment Includes
Intake Interview
Intake interviews are conducted with all assessment clients to assess strengths, abilities, difficulties, challenges, and developmental history. All clients are asked to bring/provide any related paperwork or reports, including school reports that they have.
Take home measures
After the intake interview, you may be provided with some questionnaires to be filled out as well as additional forms for parents/guardians, teachers, and employers.
Testing Session
Cognitive and behavioural testing is conducted to assess multiple areas of cognition and behaviour based on areas identified in the intake interview. Test selection is determined based on diagnostic appropriateness. Depending on attention difficulties and testing requirements, testing may be completed over multiple sessions to ensure best performance.
Feedback Session and Final Report
A feedback session is scheduled for ~4 weeks after the final testing session. Your report will include several recommendations for understanding your presentation, strengths, and weaknesses. It will include ways to manage any areas of difficulty e.g.: psychological strategies, recommendations for medication (psychologists cannot prescribe medication), adjustments to school or employment to support learning and performance.
FEES
Fees vary depending on the assessment and testing requirements
Comprehensive assessments cost between $1500-2500 depending on testing requirements and how many testing sessions are needed.
A $300 deposit is required 24 hours prior to your intake assessment
A final cost will be provided via email within 48 hours of your intake assessment, once testing requirements have been determined.
Complete payment is required 48 hours prior to your testing session.
Cognitive testing is generally not covered by medicare rebates
NDIS funding may be available, please discuss this with your NDIS support coordinator
Some private health funds may offer rebates - clients are encouraged to speak to their providers
Some medicare benefits may be available to clients under the age of 25 who meet the requirements for complex neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g Autism) and other eligible disabilities with a referral from a GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician.
